WVGOP Chairwoman Statement Federal Indictment ofPresident Donald Trump

Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginia Republican Party Chairwoman Elgine McArdle issued the following statement following the news that former President Donald Trump has been indicted by the Justice Department:

“The federal indictment of President Donald Trump tonight is a new low, even for Joe Biden’s Justice Department,” said West Virginia Republican Party Chairwoman Elgine McArdle. 

"The United States of America is a Republic, which means that neither the whims of one man nor the passions of a mob, rule our nation. Rather, we are ruled by law. This Justice Department has weaponized the rule of law to hunt and persecute Biden’s political opponents. This Justice Department has targeted parents who voiced concerns at school board meetings. This Justice Department raided the home of, and indicted, a Pennsylvania pro-life activist for praying outside of an abortion clinic.  Not once, not twice, but yet again, this Justice Department continues to target conservative Republicans and conservative Christians who are simply expressing the ideas protected by our Constitution!" 

"Joe Biden is not only using the Justice Department as a political weapon, Joe Biden’s administration is attempting to criminalize the activity of anyone who dares to disagree with him, and who poses a threat to his political agenda and regime. In this country, we settle political disputes at the ballot box and we don’t imprison the leaders of the opposition." 

"This isn’t just an indictment against a former President, it is an indictment against the leading Presidential candidate of the opposition party, and an indictment against our freedoms. In seven months, the first ballots will be cast in the next Presidential election. This must stop!" 

"These acts are a radical departure from 'democratic norms' but Biden and his radical far-left Democrats do not care about our country. This indictment is an attack on conservatives, Republicans, traditional Americans, as well as the ideas and values that hold Western civilization together. Tolerating harassment or imprisonment of former Heads of State and presidential candidates resemble third world banana Republics, not the United States of America." 

"We strongly and unequivocally condemn this indictment. The Constitution and truth must prevail."
